How We Pick Gaming Gifts
No test lab, no paid placements, no invented ratings. Here's the whole process, in the open.
Most gift guides ask you to trust that they personally tested everything. We can’t say that honestly, so we don’t. Instead we compete on something you can actually check: a clear, repeatable method. Here it is, start to finish.
1. How a gift makes the list
A product earns a spot only if it clears all of these:
- It fits a specific person and budget. We start from who you’re buying for — a kid, a boyfriend, a Switch owner, a $25 ceiling — not from a product we want to sell.
- It’s broadly loved by real owners. We look at the weight of genuine owner sentiment, not one glowing quote.
- It’s in stock and giftable. A brilliant gift you can’t buy today is no help.
- It’s age-appropriate. For games, we show the official ESRB rating so you can match it to the recipient.
2. Where our facts come from
Every factual claim traces to a real source, dated. Game details and age ratings come from official listings and the ESRB; product details come from the manufacturer or the retail listing; how-to-gift steps come from the platform’s own help pages (Steam, Nintendo, PlayStation). We don’t write from memory, and we cite our sources at the bottom of every guide.
3. How prices work
Prices are pulled from a live daily check and shown with an “as of” date. If a price can’t be verified, the button reads “Check price” — we never show a stale or guessed number. If our daily check ever stops, the numbers disappear on their own rather than going quietly out of date.
4. What we are NOT
- No test lab. We don’t own most of these products and we never claim to have bench-tested them.
- No paid placements. No brand can buy a spot on a list. Sponsored placements accepted: zero.
- No fabricated reviews or ratings. We never invent a star rating, a review count, or a testimonial.
- No borrowed credentials. Our writer is an enthusiast, described exactly as that.
5. Commission never picks the winner
We earn an affiliate commission on some links. It never changes which gift we recommend — where a cheaper option is the smarter buy, that’s our pick. Read the full affiliate disclosure and our editorial policy.
6. How often we update
Prices refresh daily. Roundups get reviewed regularly and fully refreshed before the gift season. Seasonal pages are updated ahead of each occasion, and how-to guides are checked whenever a platform changes how gifting works. Every page shows a real “last updated” date — never back- or forward-dated.
